From mussels to salmon
This plant used to process mussels until the year 2008 when it stops running. Now it is expected to be transformed into a salmon processing facility with a maximum capacity of 4 tonnes per hour.
According to the information provided by the company to the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA), this project will cost around US$ 9.27 million and it is expected to start processing in the second half-year of 2013.
Among other advantages for the city of Puerto Montt, the company argues that this project implies hiring 440 people: 35 workers in the refurbishing period and 405 for the processing operations.
