18 feed mills achieve ASC certification ahead of October deadline
Eighteen feed mills across 12 different countries achieved certification against the Aaquculture Stewardship Council’s Feed Standard in the first six and a half months of this year, the organisation said today.
The certifications come ahead of the October 31 deadline for ASC certified fish farms to ensure they are using feed from feed mills that are certified against the ASC Feed Standard.
Feed mills that have been ASC certified in the period include Cargill’s Westfield plant near Bathgate in central Scotland, and Skretting facilities in Canada, Spain, Norway, Japan, Italy, and Australia.
Making real change
Aisla Jones, feed engagement and UK markets manager at ASC, said: “By choosing ASC Feed certification and meeting the rigorous environmental and social requirements of the ASC Feed Standard, these feed companies are making real change and driving full-chain responsibility. We congratulate all recently certified feed mills on their achievements and look forward to seeing the positive impact they have on the industry.
“This marks another important step in our mission of transforming the industry. We recognise there is still progress to be made, and we remain focused on driving it forward.”

All ingredient groups
ASC says its standard is the first to take into consideration the impacts created across all key ingredient groups and across the entire ingredient supply chain, including the feed mills themselves and their raw material suppliers.
This includes all major agriculture crops such as wheat, corn and canola, in addition to soy and palm oil, plus marine ingredients. ASC says requirements on reporting of performance improve assurances by creating unrivalled transparency throughout the entire aquafeed supply chain, reward environmental sustainability and social responsibility, as well as assisting future research into responsible feed.
There are now 35 feed mills across 14 countries globally that have achieved ASC Feed certification.
