The intended sale, made by Fredriksen’s Geveran Trading Co, was announced yesterday and completed today, at a price of NOK 117 per share – equating to NOK 4.4226 billion (£366 million).

Fredricksen, who owns the world's largest fleet off oil tankers, is said to have lost around 40% of his wealth in recent years and there has been speculation that he is using the money raised from the Marine Harvest share sale to prop up other parts of his ailing empire.

Following the deal, Geveran owns 79,551,603 shares in Marine Harvest, representing 17.67% of the share capital and voting rights in the company.
