Ventisqueros strengthens Salmon Council
Chilean salmon farmer Ventisqueros has become the sixth member of the Salmon Council, a trade body that represents companies producing about 60% of the sector’s output.
Ventisqueros, part of German holding company Schörghuber Gruppe, is a vertically integrated company that produces approximately 45,000 tonnes of salmon annually and has more than 1,300 employees. Its harvest volume is split more or less evenly between coho and Atlantic salmon, although it aims for 60% coho by 2030.
Salmon Council executive president Loreto Seguel said: “For Chile, salmon farming is an industry deeply rooted in the southern region and, at the same time, with a strong national identity and a global reach. The addition of Ventisqueros reinforces that identity: an industry that originates in the regions, generates employment and opportunities, and competes in the world's most demanding markets.”
Strengthening the sector
Ventisqueros general manager José Luis Vial said it is especially important for the company to participate in collaborative spaces that contribute to the development and strengthening of an increasingly competitive, sustainable salmon farming industry.
“In this context, we value the role that the Salmon Council has been playing in coordinating the sector, promoting constructive dialogue with the public sector and society, as well as an agenda that allows us to project the responsible growth of our industry,” added the executive.
The Salmon Council’s other member companies are AquaChile, which accounts for approximately 25% of Chilean salmon production; Australis Seafoods (10.9%); Cermaq; Mowi Chile; and Salmones Aysén.
