Magallanes production reaches 47,000 tonnes
Exports of salmonids from Magallanes reached 24 countries and were worth a total of US$ 134 million in 2014. During 2015 the volume is expected to increase from 34,883 to 47,200 tonnes.
"The salmon industry is and will remain important to the region, because we are the only industry that is planning to double its production within the next four years, as well as improve our employment figures," said the manager of the Association of Salmon Farmers of Magallanes, Manuel González.
The association expects to double its employment figures by the year 2018 from its current level of 1,500 direct and 3,000 indirect jobs in the region.
