Shetland service boat operator adds to aquaculture fleet

Shetland-based service and wellboat operator Johnson Marine Ltd has ordered a new service vessel from Norwegian shipyard Moen Marin AS.

  • Built in aluminium in accordance with the DNV Nordic Boat Standard. Wide hull ensures optimal stability and buoyancy, and all-welded frame provides increased strength.
  • Fully insulated engine room meets with an automated fire extinguisher system meets.
  • The Nogva Scania D1 13 engines with a combined output of 1000 hp, Nogva gears, a rotatable propeller system, two thrusters from Petter Marine ensure sufficient power and maneuverability.
  • Furuno navigation and communication systems.
  • Two Palfinger cranes, both located on the port side of the work deck, offer a capacity of 62 and 32 tonne metres, 20-metre range, radio control and mounted 6.5 and 3.5 tonne winches.
  • Two capstans, 8 and 3 tonnes respectively, are equipped with foot pedals and emergency stop.
  • Parker pumps feed the hydraulic systems.

The company, which owns eight wellboats and six service boats, has previously acquired several service vessels from Moen Marin for aquaculture service work in the rough waters surrounding Shetland.

The new vessel, due for delivery by spring 2019, is slightly larger than previous deliveries from Moen Marin. The 14.99 by 10 metre catamaran, a NabCat 1498/1000 MD, features a two-storey wheelhouse, and a safe and spacious work deck.

The vessel’s dimensions give room for two double cabins, one single cabin, lounge, galley, wardrobe and sanitary facilities. The wheelhouse offers a 360-degree view.

Ivor Johnson from Johnson Marine said the new addition to the fleet would support the company’s growth and commitment to supporting the aquaculture industry in Iceland. Johnson Marine harvests all the salmon grown in Iceland.
