A spokesperson for the marine ingredients organisation told Fish Farming Expert: “The IFFO Management Board judged the applications on degrees of change or positive impact that was achieved and how they represented the industry in lobbying and advocacy; set an example to others in responsible business practice, environmental management and/or corporate governance; and showed innovation in environmental, social, technical or product areas.”

This year’s applicants came from a wide cross section of IFFO’s membership, showing examples of success from both small and large producers and traders from across the globe.  The finalists are as follows:

Leadership Awards

  • Exalmar – a Peruvian FM and FO producer.
  • Charoen Pokphand Foods – a Thai aquafeed producer.
  • High Fortune – a Chinese FM and FO producer.

Innovation Awards

  • TASA – which has 11 FM and FO production plants in Peru.
  • Orizon – a Chilean FM and FO producer.
  • Oceana – South Africa’s largest fishing company which has three FM and FO reduction plants.

“This is now the second year that we have held the IFFO Awards and once again we have a host of strong candidates. We look forward to announcing the winners and celebrating these important examples with the aim to encourage more in the future,” said Andrew Mallison, IFFO's Director General, in a press release.

The winners of the awards will be announced at the Gala Dinner of the 56th IFFO Annual Conference, which is taking place on 24-26 October in Bangkok. More than 450 participants from around 40 countries are expected at the event.
