Four face trial for allegedly passing off Norwegian salmon as Scottish
Four people have appeared at York Magistrates Court to face allegations of passing off Norwegian salmon as Scottish salmon, the website Food Manufacture reports.
It follows an investigation by the Food Standard Agency’s National Food Crime Unit.
The Crown Prosecution Service has charged the four with conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.
Foodmanufacture.co.uk reports that the defendants are alleged to have fraudulently passed off salmon products supplied to Bleiker’s Smoke House Ltd as Scottish, when the product was in fact in full or part Norwegian.
The case has been committed to Teesside Crown Court, Middlesbrough, and is scheduled for February 6.
