SRS is the most frequent disease in Chilean sea farms
According to the Sanitary Report for the Q1 2012 produced by the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca), there were 127 diagnostics positive to SRS in the first three months of this year. 96 of those diagnostics were reported in Atlantic salmon, 23 cases in Rainbow trout and 7 in Coho salmon.
IPNv was the second most frequently diagnosed disease in salmonids with 32 cases. 18 of them were reported in Atlantic salmon, 7 in Rainbow trout and 7 in Coho salmon. Flavobacterium psychrophilum was in third place with 9 positive diagnostics; 4 of those cases were reported in Atlantic salmon, 2 in Rainbow trout and 3 in Coho salmon.
The Sanitary Report also describes a moderate increase in the sea lice abundance in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of 2011, especially in the 11th Region (Aysén). Sernapesca explains that this situation is explained by the larger biomass of fish seen this year which is 59.66 percent higher than in Q1 2011. Likewise, most of this increase (90.97%) was observed in the region of Aysén.
