Salmon farms are not organic, lobbyists claim
The conservation group claims that salmonfarmed on sites off the Atlantic coast should not be described as organic because they are fed on food made from fish which are not harvested in a sustainable fashion.
In a press release, Padraic Fogarty of the IWT claimed there was no evidence that any Irish salmon farm was entitled to claim its product is organic. “We do not believe farmed salmon can be considered organic under current EU regulations, and take issue with these claims,” he said.
