M&S introducing carbon labelling
According to the Food and Drink Industry Network, the company has already started working in partnership with the Carbon Trust on a scheme that will clearly state the environmental impact of its goods and services, in line with the UK government's carbon footprint initiative. Under the extensive eco-plans, the retail giant will phase out 19 more pesticides from its food production and also has plans to provide its own-brand Oakham chickens with more room by reducing stocking densities, the newspaper Guardian reported. The M&S annual corporate social responsibility review is a key part of attempts by the company to improve its environmental credentials, as consumers demand greener products and businesses. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is supporting attempts by the Carbon Trust and UK retailers to devise a 'carbon calculator' that would work out the carbon cost of products such as food items
