Lifesaving donation from Shetland farm
The local salmon company came to the rescue of the Unst surgery when two pieces of equipment – the ECG and the centrifuge – needed rto be replaced.
The ECG machine is a life-saving piece of equipment. It measures the electrical activity of the heart and the reports it generates can be sent electronically straight to the hospital for advice if necessary. The centrifuge spins up to 16 blood samples at once and gives the medical centre time to send these to the laboratories in the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick for analysis.
