Tidal forms new partnership to scale operations in Chile
Google spin-off tailors artificial intelligence-based system for region’s salmon farmers
Aquaculture technology company Tidal has announced a strategic alliance with Maqsur Enterprises, a Chilean provider of aquaculture services and solutions, to scale its operations and establish a robust sales and support network in the national aquaculture market.
TidalX AI, a spin-off of Alphabet (Google's parent company) for artificial intelligence and underwater robotics applied to aquaculture, seeks to offer solutions specifically tailored to Chile, with the same standards of precision and quality developed through years of global experience.
After collaborating with Mowi, Tidal initially implemented its proprietary hardware and software platform in Norway.
Autonomous feeding
Designed for demanding environments, the system allows farmers to monitor biomass and growth in real time, estimate harvest results, anticipate animal welfare issues, and perform autonomous feeding, all from a single platform powered by artificial intelligence.
Since then, the company has established collaborative projects with Chilean salmon farmers to understand the local needs, infrastructure, and genetics of the industry, adapting its technology accordingly. Tidal is currently working to launch specific features, such as Caligus detection.
Maqsur Enterprises brings together companies that offer rental and sales of machinery, high-value fish processing equipment, HDPE technical piping for feed lines, surge and aeration systems, and photoperiod systems.
Constantly evolving
“Maqsur Enterprises is uniquely positioned to facilitate the rapid and efficient adoption of Tidal's smart camera technology by producers, providing the essential technical support for the introduction of new technologies in a constantly evolving sector,” said Maqsur Enterprises CEO, Carlos Mackenna.
“With over 25 years of experience and leadership across Regions X, XI, and XII, we believe we are poised to expand our offering to incorporate smart camera technology for aquaculture, aligning ourselves with the evolving landscape of the industry.”
Tidal CEO Rajesh Jadhav said: “This is one of those partnerships where one plus one equals three.
Comprehensive platform
“Maqsur's regional expertise and deep roots in southern Chile make them the ideal partner to bring our smart technology to the heart of aquaculture. Together, we're not just responding to demand; we're helping define the future of the industry.”
Tidal spun out of Alphabet's innovation lab, known as X, the moonshot factory, with the backing of international investors. Its mission is to empower aquaculture producers through a comprehensive platform that delivers actionable data to improve efficiency, create value, reduce costs and waste, and proactively manage fish welfare and environmental impact.
The platform was recognised by Time magazine as one of the best sustainability innovations of 2023.
