Miami prices hit a 5-year high

Chilean Trim-D salmon fillets were traded at an average price of $5.91 per pound during week 21 - a 5-year record - as well as the tenth week in a row that they have traded at over $5 per pound in the US.

The average price, equivalent to $13.03/kg, represents a 1.4 per cent or 8 cents increase compared to the previous week. It is also 59.3 per cent higher than the price observed in the same week of 2015 ($3.71) and 9.6 per cent over that one seen in the same week of 2014 ($5.39).

According to the weekly report published by SalmonEx, the Brazilian market price experienced a $0.06 decrease. Fish of 10-12lb (4.5-5.4kg), being the most representative, averaged $7.61/kg.

In the Japanese market, the price of frozen HOG coho salmon and trout remained unchanged. The first one averaged ¥ 645 ($5.8)/kg, while the second averaged ¥ 765 ($6.88)/kg.
