ASL is looking forward to continuing its relationship with the Scottish Salmon Company - with both companies emphasising Scottish provenance, with an eye on the export market.

Associated Seafood Limited, who are based in Buckie, have been given a few samples of the product by SSC and have been very pleased with the results.

As Neil Greig, Commercial Director of ASL, told Fish Farming Expert: “We’ve been given a few samples of the new Native Hebridean strain, which have smoked very well,” he reflects.

The two companies have worked closely together for the last 4-5 years, as Neil reflects: “ASL and SSC have mutual investors, making us sister companies and all of the salmon we smoke comes from SSC farms.

“It’s the best quality salon for smoking – in terms of size, muscle structure and fat content – and our close relationship allows for a continuity of supply and a consistency of product throughout the year.”

ASL is at the show to promote its new ‘Pride of Scotland’ range – under the ‘Scottish Salmon Smoked in Scotland’ strapline – a message that very much ties in with SSC’s emphasis on Scottish provenance.

And like SSC, ASL is very much expert-oriented, with 90% of its sales international, to “37 countries at the last count”, according to Neil.

However, he also revealed that the company has also recently landed a deal to provide “top tier smoked salmon listing for Marks & Spencer, which will be our largest UK business when it launches in September”.
