Seafood Week in October

Published Last updated

UK: THIS year’s Seafood Week, which aims to boost consumer awareness of seafood available and raise awareness of healthy eating, will take place on the 5-12 October. According to organiser Seafood Industry Authority, the campaign will be bigger and better than ever, with businesses from every sector of the industry getting involved. In a press release, Seafish said the Seafood Week would provide the ideal opportunity for the industry to boost consumer awareness of the wide variety of fish and shellfish available in the UK and the many health benefits that they offer. The week provides focus for the year round ‘2 a week’ campaign, based on the Food Standards Agency’s recommendation.

Seafood Week 2006 was deemed a great success after a record number of supermarkets, hundreds of fishmongers and more than 1000 restaurants and fish and chip shops took part.

Five major multiples across the UK backed the campaign. ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose featured the specially created ‘2 a week’ logo and offered sampling and special offers.
