Feed manufacturer BioMar Chile and Corbion, which produces omega-3 feed ingredient AlgaPrime DHA, are promoting the hour-long online events, called “The Breakfast Series”, which are free to watch but require registration.

Speakers will present on post-Covid consumer trends, diversification of sales channels and consumer confidence. All presentations will be in English.

Although primarily aimed at Chilean producers, much of the subject matter is likely to be of interest to all salmon producers who export to the US.

New normal

Today’s webinar is called “The new norm: US consumer trends in food & seafood post Covid”, and features contributions from Arlin Wasserman, chief executive of food industry consultancy Changing Tastes; Linda Cornish, president of the Seafood Nutrition Partnership; James Griffin, executive director of the Chilean Salmon Marketing Council; and Sebastian Goycoolea, chief executive of BluGlacier, which markets Chilean coho salmon in the US.

Wasserman will speak about research on US consumer trends for food and seafood during Covid times and beyond, while Cornish will talk about the demographics on US seafood consumption, benefits of omega-3s for human health, and upcoming US dietary guidelines.

Sales channel diversity

Tomorrow’s event, also at 2pm GMT, is called “New opportunities: sales channel diversity and community trust”.

It features Julia Blanter, digital marketing director at New York’s massive Fulton Fish Market; Blake Stok, aquaculture manager for US Fair Trade; Vidar Gundersen, global sustainability director for BioMar Group; and Rick Cano, managing director for Trapanada Seafarms, the US sales arm of Chilean salmon farmer Australis.

Blanter will speak about trends in online marketplaces, how to engage consumers, and new opportunities for selling salmon online, while Gundersen will focus on BioMar’s Discover Tool that implements traceability for salmon products.

Different points of view

“We know that our clients constantly monitor changes in the markets, and we believe that we can contribute to their strategies and decisions with an instance like The Breakfast Series, where we are gathering different points of view with an eye on a scenario that is already different,” said BioMar commercial manager Michael Adler.
