The latest ISA update for Chile
SERNAPESCA’s monitoring and control measures to mitigate the spread of ISA include a monthly report on each geographic area under quarantine and the status of each farm within these areas. Below is an illustration the number of farms per company that have an ISA outbreak, are suspected of having the virus, or under quarantine and still testing negative. Compared to last month, three new companies (Salmones Maullín, Metas S.A., and Ventisqueros) were added to the list as either suspected or under quarantine, but no new farms have added to the outbreak list. In fact, the number of farms with actual outbreaks has dropped from 19 to 12.

NOTE:
1) Besides the numbers listed above, there are a total of 43 farms that are either within a quarantine zone but without fish, or are in a regulated fallow period.
2) A news piece appeared last week in the Chilean media (http://www.ecoceanos.cl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6615) claiming that a Marine Harvest site in Magallanes was responsible for having brought ISA to Region XII. Although one sample in one cage did test positive recently, this is not conclusive enough to claim that the virus exists in the Region. According to a response by Marine Harvest in Aqua.cl, the company has decided to eliminate the entire farm to eliminate any possible association with the comany and the disease in Region XII.
