Targeting top tables overseas
Lossie Seafoods Ltd, which specialises in producing premium quality seafood products from its base in Buckie, recently won new orders from the Middle East.
It has grown its business on a reputation of excellence in customer service and producing artisan smoked salmon using unique smoking methods.
Lossie Seafoods reported an increase in sales of £1 million last year and just under £1 million again this year. It mainly exports to Europe, North America and the Middle East and is the first business to export smoked salmon to Mexico, Moscow, Beirut, Jordan and Denmark.
The company’s premium smoked salmon is now stocked in Magasin du Nord, the Danish equivalent of Harrods, as well as the Al Maharah restaurant at the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, which promotes itself as serving only the finest seafood in the world.
The firm is now also the main supplier of smoked salmon to Switzerland, supplying Michelin restaurants across the country.
Only 18 months ago, Denmark stocked 100 per cent Norwegian smoked salmon so infiltrating this market is a huge boost to the business.
As a high-growth company, Lossie Seafoods is a Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) account-managed business.
Mandy Holmes, HIE account manager, said the success of Lossie Seafoods could be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the entire workforce.
"They are a very forward-thinking business. They took part in HIE's recent International Strategy Workshop and are working to a four-year strategy and action plan."
The business employs 40 staff and is due to take delivery of two new smoker units, which promise to triple capacity at the Buckie factory.
