According to Insider Media Yorkshire, the Icelandic Group UK (IGUK), which currently has a 20 per cent share of the market, said the move created a platform for it to scale to an "industry leadership position" in three to five years time.

Manufacturing operations for the Seachill, Coldwater and Icelandic UK divisions will continue as three discreet business units. The 1,500 jobs in the Grimsby region will be unaffected by the changes.

Magnus Bjarnason, chief executive of Icelandic Group, said: "We recognise the importance of the UK, not least because of its highly developed retail market and are keen to take an active part in our continued growth in this territory.”
