Salmonid harvests up 13%
Chile's salmonid harvests totalled 603,913 tonnes in the first nine months of this year, representing a 13.8 per cent increase compared to the same period of 2013 (530,686 tonnes), according to preliminary figures submitted by the Chilean Under-Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca).
A comparison of results itemized by species shows a 28.9 per cent increase in Atlantic salmon harvests from 352,060 tonnes to 453,667 tonnes; a 5.5 per cent decrease in rainbow trout harvests to 102,094 tonnes; and a 30.8 per cent decrease in Coho salmon harvests, to 48,152 tonnes.
