Salmon is the main export product in Aysén
According to a recent report published by the Export Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ProChile), salmonids are included in the category ‘fisheries’ which totalized exports for USD 83.1 million in Aysén. Meanwhile, the mining industry exported USD 16.6 million from that region; the agricultural sector exported USD 0.6 million; and the forestry industry exported USD 18,753 in 1Q 2010.
As a consequence of that leadership, 7 out of the 10 biggest exporter companies in the region of Aysén are related to salmon farming: Acuinova Chile (USD 16.9 million); Salmones Aysén (14.1 million), Salmones FrioSur (USD 12.9 million); Salmones Itata (USD 11.1 million); Cultivos Marinos Chiloé (USD 8.2 million); Salmones Ice Val (USD 6.4 million); and Salmones Cupquelán (USD 4.5 million).
