Losses between US$ 0.6 and US$ 2.6 per kilo in Chile
Christian Pérez Five salmon producing companies listed in the Santiago Stock Exchange (AquaChile, Multiexport, Australis, Blumar and Camanchaca) have reported negative EBIT per Kg of sold salmon in the first six months of 2013. These losses range between US$ -0.62 and US$ -2.60 among the different companies. Salmones Blumar and Australis Seafoods were the companies with the largest losses in the production of Atlantic salmon: US$ -1.17/Kg WFE* in the first six months of 2013. According to both companies, these results are explained by the increased production costs and low salmon prices seen in the semester. In contrast, AquaChile was the company with the lowest losses in the first six months of 2013: US$ -0.89/Kg WFE of Atlantic salmon. This result compares negatively against the losses per fish of US$ -0.57/Kg WFE registered by the company in the first quarter of this year. Regarding Rainbow trout, Australis Seafoods was the company with the largest unitary losses in the period, with a negative EBIT of US$ - 2.60/Kg WFE in the first six months of 2013. Meanwhile, Multiexport was the company with the lowest losses per Kg of Rainbow trout produced: US$ - 0.62 in the first half-year, representing a strong decline compared to the EBIT of US$ -0.30/Kg WFE recorded by the company in the same period of 2012 WFE: Whole Fish Equivalent.
