E-coli outbreak linked to fish and chips shop

The woman and girl remain seriously ill in hospital. The outbreak has a possible link to a Wrexham fish and chip shop. The owner's solicitor said he was cooperating fully with the inquiry.

The chip shop, Llay Fish Bar has been shut, but the owner, who has 17 years' experience, said he used respectable suppliers, according to BBC News.

The leader of Wrexham council, Aled Roberts, told BBC News that the council had last week completed its investigations under the Pennington report, the public inquiry into the E.coli outbreak in 2005 which left one boy dead and over 150 other people ill.

He said the council had checked "high risk" establishments, and Llay Fish Bar was not among them. "We'd concentrated on meat establishments. Fish and chip shops generally are considered to be low risk,” he said.
