
Chile provides almost half of the smoked salmon in USA
Chile had a 42.1 percent of the market share in 2010 and 45.9 percent in 2009, while the following 10 largest exporter countries of smoked salmon to the USA have been the same in the past three years.
In 2011, those countries and their market shares were: Netherlands (30.1%), Denmark (8.3%), Poland (3.4%), Norway (3.0%), Canada (2.6%), the UK (1.6%), Iceland (0.6%), Ireland (0.2%) and France (0.2%).
According to a study recently published by the Export Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ProChile), the largest consumer US states of smoked salmon in 2011 were: Florida (33.7%), New Yersey (23.3%), Washington (19.5%), New York (14.5%), California (3.4%), Massachusetts (1.9%), District Of Columbia (1.6%), Illinois (0.8%), Virginia (0.6%) and Connecticut (0.2%).
