The move follows Grieg’s announcement last month that it and fellow Norwegian salmon farmer Bremnes Seashore were dissolving their 10-year Ocean Quality sales partnership from the end of this year.

Holvik, who will become Grieg’s chief commercial officer, will drive the development and execution of the company’s downstream efforts and global commercial strategy.

‘Impossible to turn down’

The sales professional began his career in Coast Seafood in 2003, where he worked for four years in the company’s Value Added Products (VAP) department.

Since 2011, Holvik has held various roles within sales, trading and retail in Mowi. From 2013 and onwards, he helped build the company’s sales organisation in Bergen.

In a press release, Holvik said he had had great years at Mowi, but “it was impossible to turn down the opportunity to create something brand new in Grieg Seafood”.

Andreas Kvame: Grieg will be an innovation partner with customers.

‘Enthusiasm to succeed’

Grieg Seafood chief executive Andreas Kvame said: “By 2025, we will grow sustainably, we will improve our production cost and we will evolve from being a pure supplier of salmon to becoming an innovation partner for selected customers.

“I am very pleased that Erik will join our team to develop our new downstream efforts. He has the experience, the knowledge and not least the enthusiasm needed to succeed.”

Holvik, who has a degree in commerce, takes up his new role on October 1.

Grieg farms salmon in Norway, Scotland and Canada.
