Last call for Lantra Scotland award nominations
Aquaculture companies that wish to see the efforts of their trainees recognised are being reminded to nominate their top learners for Lantra Scotland’s 2022 Awards for Land-based and Aquaculture Skills (ALBAS) before the deadline of December 3.
An independent panel of judges will shortlist the finalists, with winners announced at a ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dunblane Hydro on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
The awards are open to trainees of all ages.
Incredible stories
Lantra Scotland director Liz Barron-Majerik said: “It is a privilege to hear some of the incredible stories that people have, and I know that our independent judges always have a difficult time deciding who the winners will be from such a strong field.
“While we had to run the ALBAS as a virtual event last year, this time around we’re especially looking forward to meeting everyone in person again at the awards ceremony in March.”
Cooke Aquaculture Scotland freshwater technician Callum Duggan won two trophies in this year’s ALBAS. He was declared winner of the Aquaculture Learner of the Year award and joint winner of the CARAS (Council for Awards of Agricultural Societies) award for distinguished achievement and was also runner-up in the overall Modern Apprentice of the Year award.
Diving to husbandry
Grieg Seafood Shetland employee Guy Tindall was named as runner-up for the Aquaculture Learner of the Year award. Tindall, from Burra, worked as a fish farm diver for ten years and is now a marine senior husbandry technician looking after biosecurity and containment.
Both men completed a Modern Apprenticeship in Aquaculture (SVQ Level 3) with Shetland-based NAFC Marine Centre UHI, now part of Shetland UHI.
