The co-operation is interdisciplinary and adopts new principles in order to achieve even more efficient, predictable and environmentally-friendly products. The agreement centres on the development of realistic life-cycle tests for nets, better control of net wear and tear, and solutions that will fulfil future environmental and performance requirements. All product development is carried out in accordance with the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) Directive and the industry’s own Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Standard.

SP has administrative responsibility for a broad EU project on Low Emission Anti-Fouling (LEAF). The combination of increased expertise within materials and textiles, together with own testing facilities, will add a new dimension to product development at Steen-Hansen. Better and faster testing of new products is necessary in order to be able to launch productsmore quickly. One of Steen-Hansen’s objectives is to establish Norway’s – and the industry’s – most advanced laboratory for life-time testing of nets.
