The biggest seafood conference in Norway, Seafood Week, is to be held at the Scandic Hotel Hell on January 19-20, 2016. Formerly known as “Salmon Days”, the conference has been going for more than 20 years and is the largest and most important meeting for the seafood industry.

One of the keynote speakers is Canadian Vivian Krause. Krause has been involved in uncovering the political truths about environmental activism in North America. Specifically, she discovered how American trust funds such as the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation were quietly funding Canadian eNGOs with millions of dollars with the primary goal of “demarketizing” salmon farming in British Columbia. Her research detailed how these funding agencies had vested interests in the Alaskan wild fishery, which was significantly impacted by the advent of salmon farming in BC.

Krause will be addressing this phenomenon from a North American perspective, but will also present on how similar campaigns and political motivations may impact salmon farming globally with a special emphasis on the Norwegian farming sector.
