Unruffled by Scottish feed shakeup
Biomar’s sales figures are unlikely to be radically affected by Marine Harvest’s plans to start feed production in Scotland, according to the company’s EVP, Jan Sverre Røsstad.
Røsstad was speaking to kyst.no on the day the Marine Harvest’s plan was announced but seemed remarkably calm given that their contract to supply Marine Harvest Scotland’s sites is now due to expire in the first half of 2018.
“It was not surprising news that Marine Harvest wants to start up feed production in Scotland, we have heard about this earlier and will not be changing our future plans,” he told kyst.no
He believes the situation is quite similar to when Marine Harvest started their production in Norway.
“We have not noticed any particular difference in feed sales for our part in Norway after they started up – we experienced very similar sales figures in 2013, 2014 and 2015,” he said.
He told kyst.no that he’s in no rush to change either his philosophy or plans.
“When they eventually get feed production underway, we may see a dip in our sales volumes, but there will also probably be more capacity and competition in the market, so for our part, it will be "business as usual”, he concluded.
