SalMar Q3 harvest up by 24,500 tonnes year-on-year

SalMar, which is now the world’s second largest Atlantic salmon farmer, harvested 78,100 gutted weight tonnes in Norway and Iceland in the third quarter, a 24,500 gwt increase on the 53,600 tonnes in the same period last year.

SalMar didn’t complete its purchase of Norway Royal Salmon – which added a potential 70,000 tonnes of annual capacity – until November 2022, so had fewer sites in Q3 last year than this year.

The harvest volume does not include its share of fish harvested by Scottish Sea Farms, which is owned 50-50 by SalMar and Lerøy Seafood Group, the world’s fourth largest Atlantic salmon producer.

SalMar’s Q3 harvest was distributed as follows:

  • Farming Central Norway - 48,400 gwt
  • Farming Northern Norway - 25,700 gwt
  • Icelandic Salmon - 4,000 gwt

SalMar’s full report for Q3 2023, which will include Scottish Sea Farms’ harvest volume and financial figures, will be published on November 9.
