Salmar joins no-shows
Salmar has reported that they are pulling out of this year's Seafood Expo Global in Brussels.
“After a comprehensive and thorough review has Salmar decided not to attend this year's European Seafood Expo Global," announced the company’s CEO, Leif Nordhammer.
“Such a decision is composed of various considerations, but we have chosen to emphasize inter alia, to not expose our employees and customers to unnecessary risks, with the recent tragic events in Brussels as a backdrop,” he explained.
Lerøy, Cermaq and HB Grandi, have also dropped out of the fair and it is rumoured that several US and Asian companies will cancel.
However, Marine Harvest Norway and recently the Norwegian Seafood Council have said that they will exhibit as planned, as have all the major Scottish companies.
“We follow the Ministry's travel advice and make our judgments based on the advice we get from Norwegian authorities,” the Seafood Council’s communications director Geir Håvard Hanssen told kyst.no on Friday.
Liz Plizga, executive vice president of communications for the event, stresses that the continuity of the business is essential for industry.
“Safety is our primary. Security measures are in place for the event and private transport is organized. We are in close cooperation with the authorities in Belgium and the city of Brussels to make the safety of the event as good and comprehensive as possible,” she writes.
