Jack Robert Møller, Fisheries Envoy at the Norwegian Seafood Council, told kyst.no: “The figures show that exports to Britain went down slightly in week 50, but the overall export volume to the UK during December was up 27 per cent compared to last year.”

“There has been export growth throughout 2015 and I expect that Norwegian salmon will account for about 80 per cent of the UK market over Christmas,” Møller continued.

“Overall, the market share of Norwegian salmon in the UK has gone from 20 per cent in 2013 to almost 50 per cent this year,” he adds.

He also points to an increase in trout consumption, which has grown to about 400 tonnes, compared with 300 tonnes last year.

Earlier this year, Møller told kyst.no that: “Britain has greatly increased imports of Norwegian salmon and I do not think growth is going to slow down.”
