Marine Harvest Canada gave a tour of its freshwater and marine facilities to Fisheries & Aquaculture students at Vancouver Island University (VIU) this week, in a bid to provide students with unique practical field experience and academic skills required for exciting and challenging careers in fish and invertebrate culture, fish habitat & stock assessment, fisheries enhancement, conservation & management and research.

The company visits VIU campus annually to recruit both summer students and graduates for full time year-round employment and interest in jobs with the firm increases by the year.

"We have had exceptional success with the VIU students, both with their technical and practical abilities," says Tina Garlinski-Gonsky, Marine Harvest's Human Resources Manager. "VIU is producing top quality candidates for both our sea site and hatchery operations."

Last year the company hired eight graduates from VIU's Fisheries and Aquaculture program, as well as two part-time summer students. This year the company will welcome eight summer students to the team, and is currently hiring full-time from the current graduating cohort.
