Pumping up profits

Equipment supplier Fish Tech experienced a huge leap in earnings during 2015, and expects a solid turnover for 2016 – largely thanks to the popularity of their unique fish pumps.

“We doubled our turnover in 2015 and there is a simple reason: our fish pump that has sold very well,” CEO Petter Andreasen told kyst.no.

The company, which was formerly known as Sterner Fish Tech, has seen its revenues rise from NOK 15.7 million to 35.4 million in one year.

The operating profit of the company has also increased considerably, rising from NOK 1.3 million to 5.9 million in one year.

“We predict profits of around NOK 85 million for 2016, which is just completely insane and a brilliant result for the company,” he adds.

In 2014 the company Aqualife developed the fish pump, and the following year Fish Tech began distributing it. Which has given the supplier great success. The pump is specifically geared towards use in delousing treatments of salmon.

“We deliver it to many breeders who use Thermolicer, hydrolicers and other types of mechanical delousing,” he said.

The pumps retail for NOK 950,000 - 1.3 million apiece.

Low impact handling

He says the main advantage of the pump is that it is very gentle compared to conventional systems on the market today.

“The main reason why our customers prefer our product is that it is gentle. There has been an explosion of several types of lice treatment systems, which require a more gentle treatment, which is why our centrifugal pump is a good solution,” he said.

“It pumps the fish in a smooth, homogeneous flow of water. Where there are opportunities to adjust the water speed and quantity completely variably, which is not as easy with traditional pumping systems,” he concludes.

The company also has a number of new products in the pipeline, although are not yet ready to supply the details.
