A worker died following an accident during the installation of a salmon farm in Chile’s Los Lagos region on Friday, Fish Farming Expert’s Chilean sister site, Salmonexpert.cl, has reported.

The unidentified man, who was 36, was a crew member aboard the tug Nachito which was involved in farm installation work for salmon farmer Ventisqueros.

According to what was reported by witnesses, a buoy was suspended from the boat’s crane when its mooring element was severed, falling on the affected crew member.

The man was assisted by a paramedic at the scene but died before the boat reached port to seek further assistance.

The Maritime Authority arranged for the attendance of the Puerto Montt Maritime Prosecutor, in order to find out the causes and those responsible, if any, for the accident.
