The barges are destined for Canada and will be operational this summer.

”This has been a great project to work on,” says Ronny Askeland, head of projects for Steinsvik, which has specialised in delivering products and solutions to aquaculture, maritime industries and the oil and gas industry for more than 25 years. “Great coworkers and partners on three continents have contributed to the project being delivered on time. Factory workers in Vietnam, software developers, project workers and technicians in Norway, in addition to a growing service team in Canada, have all been important in securing the contracts and finalising the delivery.”

The barges are in the SeaFarm Feeder design, have a feed storage capacity of 300 metric tons, and are customized for customer needs and site conditions. The design makes them efficient feeding machines and they have proved to be well suited for Steinsvik’s overseas customers.

All barges from Steinsvik are equipped with the Next Generation FeedStation software and can be fitted with two to eight feeding lines. The barges on their way to Canada have four feeding lines and can feed up to 48 cages each.

This is the third time in two years that Steinsvik has shipped feed barges as deck cargo to Canada. A total of 13 barges have been shipped to Canada this way.

“This is a challenging and costly operation made possible by Steinsvik’s global presence and years of experience in fish farming deliveries on all continents,” said Askeland. ”Jumbo performed the loading with the highest precision.”
