US exports up 18%

Chile's salmon producers exported products to the USA worth US$ 1,142.6 million up to September this year, representing a 31.7 per cent increase compared to the US$ 867.5 million registered in the same months of 2013. Canada was in second place, with returns of US$ 383.7 million and 48,017 tonnes. Those results represent 12.1 and 24.4 per cent decreases in value and volume, respectively, compared to the same period of 2013. According to the trade data published by the Fisheries Statistics Division of the NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, Norway was in third place with sales of US$ 233.6 million and 19,986 tonnes. Those numbers represent 80.6 and 70.5 per cent increases in value and volume, respectively. Meanwhile, China was in fourth place, with returns of US$ 192.3 million and 33,120 tonnes. These figures represent a 23.6 and 15.9 per cent increases in value and volume, compared to the first nine months of 2013. Finally, the United Kingdom was in fifth place, with returns of US$ 115.2 million and 13,354 tonnes. Those results represent 35.7 and 38.5 per cent increases in value and volume, respectively, compared to the same period of 2013. The USA imports of all salmon and trout products up to September this year totalled 245,276 tonnes, worth US$ 2,315.8 million.
