Spaniards prefer Norwegian salmon

Christian Pérez Over one thousand consumers between 20 and 65 years old were interviewed in Spain regarding their preferences when buying salmon as part of the analysis of consumer trends. Up to 84 per cent of them associated the concept ‘salmon’ with Norway as its country of origin. Likewise, 75 per cent of all survey respondents claimed to prefer Norwegian salmon, according to the Norwegian Seafood Council. Moreover, 25 per cent of all survey respondents answered that they deemed Norwegian origin as a ‘very important’ factor in which salmon they chose, while 37 per cent considered it to be ‘important’.   Multiple choice questions revealed that 75 per cent of the respondents chose Norwegian salmon for its health benefits, 65 per cent would choose it for its taste and 45 per cent mentioned the ease of preparation as being a key factor.   The supermarket is the most common place to purchase Norwegian salmon, accounting for 52 per cent of all preferences, while traditional fish markets accounted for 45 per cent of respondents' answers.
