Pescanova has a pioneering history in Chile, with 25 years of commercial fishing experience and 15 years of salmon farming experience in Chile’s southernmost Regions, Aysén and Magallanes. PescaChile was one of the first companies to initiate salmon farming operations in Aysén in the early to mid 90’s, and was the first to branch into Magallanes in 2002. According to Aqua.cl, PescaChile’s aquaculture operations will split into two new companies – Acuinova Chile and Nova Austral. Acuinova Chile will be the name of the aquaculture in company in Aysén and Nova Austral will be the sister company in Magallanes. José Gago Sancho, who has been in charge PescaChile’s salmon farming operations since the beginning will continue to be in charge of both companies. The original PescaChile will be exclusively the commercial fishing company (the largest commercial fishing company in southern Chile), and remain under the management of Marcos Osuna Andrade. As for the newly organized Aquinova and Nova Austral, these companies expect a harvest of 22 thousand tons of salmon and trout this year, with sales of approximately US$ 130 million. By 2012 they are expected to produce 66 thousand tons and reach sales of US$ 365 million.
