Sharp increase in export value

Published Modified

The total export of farmed salmon from Norway in September 2012 was 101 000 tons, an increase of 13% compared to September 2011. For the full year up til September the total salmon export was 907 000 tons, an increase of 22%, while the value has increased by only 1% in the same period.

- The sharp climb in value in September is due to increased demand for salmon, says analyst Paul Aandahl from the Norwegian Seafood Council. - Despite the increased volume, we see an increase in salmon prices. In November the average price for whole, fresh salmon was 27,10 NOK/kg, which is 2,03 NOK/kr above the level same month last year, and 1,36 NOK/kg above the level for the previous month.

EU, with Poland in lead, is the most important market for farmed Norwegian salmon.
