Severe losses after ISA outbreak

To prevent the spread of ISA in Lofoten, Ellingsen Seafood destroyed 830,000 fish at an average weight of 0.6 kg.

"We have followed the required procedures when such incidents happens. The fish harvested now causes a big loss. Although the most important right now is to prevent the spread of the disease," company CEO Line Ellingsen told Vesterålen Online.

By taking such drastic action the company hopes to prevent the infection of a further 640,000 fish at the same site. According to the harvesting plan these fish are due to be slaughtered this winter.

"There is no evidence of ISA virus in the remaining stock. Nor higher mortality. We take regular samples of the fish," says Ellingsen.
