Salmon waste materials used for building materials
The first initials of the company name WPC Chile S.A. stand for Wood-Plastic-Composites. The new company recently won a funding grant in conjunction with CORFO, the State owned corporation for socio-economic development, and SalmonChile, based on its innovative project that entails the recycling of plastic waste. The project will be based in Aysén, a region that has limited disposal or recycling services and a growing salmon industry. According to the Diario Aysén an official agreement was recently signed between CORFO, WPC Chile S.A. and SalmonChile; where which SalmonChile is responsible for providing the plastic, and WPC Chile the finished building materials needed for a new housing development led by CORFO. Wood-plastic-composites (WPC) were developed in the USA in the 1960’s and used extensively as a framing material for windows and doors. WPC’s are widely used today as a lightweight and economic alternative for various building applications.
