“The traditional markets are struggling,” he says and adds that the UK salmon farming industry is coping by exporting their fish elsewhere.
In the UK, supermarkets are putting on special offers to try to entice customers to buy salmon:
“The Co-op is selling smoked salmon for 'buy 1 get 2 free'. That tells me all I need to know...
“I have not seen this for a very long time,” Jaffa points out.
Other supermarkets chains including Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda have also had great promotional activity on salmon products in the last few months
“Even Marks & Spencer have been selling their standard salmon fillet for '3 for £10',” Jaffa adds.
