Within the first nine months of this year, the salmon exports decreased 32% (USD 352 million) compared to the same period of 2009. This situation might be explained due to the strong contraction of the volumes exported, which totalized 90,000 less tonnes than in the same period of 2009, even with a 24% increase experienced in the declared price of these products, according to the Monthly Report of External Trade published by the National Customs Service.

Meanwhile, the trout exports increased 37% (USD 166.6 million) compared to the first nine months of 2009, showing also a 21% increase in the average and 10,098 extra tonnes exported within the period.

USA was the main market for salmon, concentrating 34% of the salmon exports and followed by Japan and Brazil, with 23% and 15%, respectively. Meanwhile, Rainbow trout was mainly shipped to Japan, country that responded for 65% of the total exports of that fish.
