In regard to this year he added that the die is cast. “The fish that are going to be harvested and processed in the industry and later on going to be exported are already in the midst of their breeding and there is no way to change that. The speed of new sowings is going to have a productive effects starting on the second half-year of 2011. Because of this, we must accept reality, that 2010 will be the lowest year in terms of harvests for the whole consolidated industry” he said, adding that “we have to look forward and see how we recover the lost space in terms of production in a more sustainable and safe framework for the industry. We have to operate and act according to the biomass that we have and be prepared to grow responsibly as from 2011”.

Puchi also explained that the ISA virus’ spread is still not completely controlled since “the virus presence has decreased because the biomass exposed to this disease has been lowered to a minimal expression. There is no more that 10%, 12% or 15% at most of the original sowings”.

Regarding his company’s sowings, Puchi detailed to the newspaper La Tercera that are slow like what happens with the rest of the industry “because we have to avoid reinitiating the productive processes under risky conditions”.
