Norwegian model: all or nothing

That was the message from Trond Wiliksen, CEO of Akva, who tried to answer the question “Is the Norwegian model of relevance in other countries?” during a talk at Aqua Nor today.

“It’s not just a question of the farmers,” he explained, “there’s a whole cluster of factors that need to be developed in parallel.”

“There are several criteria for success and Norway scores highly on all fronts – but which are the most important?” he asked.

“I think the key factors are the regulatory framework and the high level of practical experience and practical knowhow – something we too often take for granted.

“I think we grossly underestimate this in Norway – I used to be a strong supporter of higher education and qualifications, but I’m now more of a supporter of practical experience.”

“If we do want to transfer the Norwegian model to other countries we better start today because it will take a long time,” he concluded.
