In both countries the undersecretary had political discussions with colleagues, met with representatives from the seafood industry, attended seminars and visited schools and fish markets. He also visited a factory in Seoul that processes Norwegian mackerel and attended a sushi workshop in Tokyo.

“We are very pleased that Drønen Ringdal came to visit. He brought experience and credibility with his knowledge of the industry. It meant that he could give anecdotes and talk to importers of Norwegian products. This was much appreciated,” said fisheries envoy to Japan and South Korea, Henrik V Andersen, before adding that the media coverage was valuable for the Norwegian seafood industry.

In 2013, Norway exported more than 25,000 tonnes of seafood to South Korea with a value of NOK 637 million, an increase of 38 per cent compared with the year before. During the same period, Norway exported just under 100,000 tonnes of Norwegian seafood to Japan. The value amounted to about NOK 2.5 billion, an increase of 15 per cent from the previous year.
