The Association of the Chilean Salmon Industry (SalmonChile) held its annual meeting of members in Puerto Varas (10th Region) and elected its new directive council and board of directors. César Barros, who has been president of SalmonChile for the past 4 years, was confirmed in the position for another 2 years.

Thus, the board of directors of SalmonChile is now conformed by César Barros, José Ramón Gutiérrez (Multiexport Foods), José Gago (Acuinova Chile), Francisco Miranda (Mainstream Chile), Sady Delgado (Pesquera Los Fiordos), Jan Stengel (Congelados Pacífico), Alberto Romero (Pesquera El Golfo), Roberto Riethmüller (Marine Harvest Chile) and Andrés Fletcher (Ventisqueros).

Regarding future challenges for the guild, César Barros commented that its efforts are going to be centered on keeping the current sanitary condition within the industry as well as recovering some markets, such as USA and Brazil. “We have to demonstrate to the world that we are a sustainable sector… consumers are demanding sustainable salmon and our actions will be oriented towards the achievement of that objective,” he said.
