Morrisons recalls fresh Scottish salmon

Published Modified

Morrisons, which is the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain, has recalled all its fresh salmon from Scotland, excluding Scottish organic salmon, sold from fresh fish counters and pre-packed chiller cabinets. This included 27 product types with the use by date 10-13 February 2008.

The reason for the recalls is a possible risk of a white spirit taint, resulting in an unpleasant taste in the fish. The Food Standards Agency, the British food standard body, has issued a Food Alert for Information.

The company has removed the affected products from sale and product recall notices appeared in the national press from yesterday. Point-of-sale notices have been displayed in its stores, explaining to the customers why the product has been recalled. Anyone who has bought the salmon products will be able to return them to the store for a full refund.
